Winter and Spring: The Philadelphia Flower Show

It was winter in Philadelphia and spring at the Flower Show. We met Simbala Drammeh, owner of Ti-a Baskets, and could not resist getting a couple of the colorful and functional handwoven baskets made by the indigenous women of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana. Her company pays its weavers 23% above Fair Trade requirements per basket. We certainly did not need more baskets but we were drawn to Simbala’s story as an entrepreneur and the work that she’s doing to teach skills and create jobs for women in Northern Ghana. Philly: Sunday Brunch at Sabrina’s Cafe

Philadelphia is having its coldest weekend in twenty years but we decided to brave the chilly and blustery weather, walk several blocks with the wind blowing tiny icicles on our faces, for a hearty and delicious brunch at one of our favorite spots, Sabrina’s Cafe, in the Italian Market on 9th and Christian.
