It was winter in Philadelphia and spring at the Flower Show.
We met Simbala Drammeh, owner of Ti-a Baskets, and could not resist getting a couple of the colorful and functional handwoven baskets made by the indigenous women of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana. Her company pays its weavers 23% above Fair Trade requirements per basket. We certainly did not need more baskets but we were drawn to Simbala’s story as an entrepreneur and the work that she’s doing to teach skills and create jobs for women in Northern Ghana.
