Book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Today is the first day of fall and what a pretty way to welcome the new season with leaves turning into the various colors of autumn, the temperature dropping ever so slightly, and the sky painted a clear blue. The end-of-summer travel flurry is over, we are settled back into our daily routine, and I have purging, organizing, and tidying up on my mind. Decluttering has been on my agenda for some time now and I am hopeful that the colder season and its natural tendency to focus me towards home will help accomplish this goal.

What I have found very helpful as I sort through my belongings is to listen to Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I confess that I am not following the book exactly as the author has laid out (clothes need to be tackled first according to Marie – I am starting with papers) but I am picking up valuable nuggets of inspiration and encouragement as I empty out folders, shred papers, and toss out product samples that have accumulated along the way. I’ve also tempered my impulse to run out to buy more storage and I am focusing instead on getting rid of things that are quite simply taking up precious space.

I am tackling this task in small chunks and look forward to having an uncluttered home.
